Having graduated from the BJ Medical College Ahmedabad he obtained his postgraduate degree in orthopaedics from the same insititue.
Along with routine orthopaedic procedures during his postgraduation, he developed a special interest in spinal disorders and their treatment led him to train extensively in spine surgery at the Paraplegia Institue at Ahmedabad which is one of the only institutions of its kind.
He also obtained additonal certification from the National Board of Examinations in Orthopaedics, immediately after his post graduation.
After increasing his surgical experience at Holy Family Hospital Delhi, he subsequently he worked as a registrar at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Delhi, where he received advanced training and experience in Spine Surgery and especially in Spinal deformity correction.
He has been associated with Paras Hospitals , Kalyani Hospitals and the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre as a Visiting Consultant.
Dr Mathur has been trained extensively in Spine Surgery at the aforementioned centres and abroad at the Seoul National University Hospital Korea, Dukes University at North Carolina and the Cervical Spine Research Society Teaching Centres in Barcelona.
He now heads the Orthopaedics Spine Unit at Medanta , The Medicity Gurgaon since its inception and has been responsible for setting up a multifaceted spine unit at the hospital doing about 400 cases yearly.
He has an extensive experience of about 6000 orthopaedic and spine surgeries covering the whole gamut of Orthopaedic and spine surgery. Dr Mathur has a large number of academic presentations and publications to his credit.
He is a lifetime member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, The Association of Spine Surgeons of India and The North American Spine Society
He wishes to contribute to society via the spine care foundation and visualizes it to be an omnibus charity for research, detection, awareness and development of spine care.
Dr Mathur is a past student of Mount Carmel Gandhidham, Rosary School Baroda and maintains active contact with the alumnii.
He is fond of cycling, music, reading and gardening, is married to a pathologist and has a teenage son who aspires to become a doctor.
