A large number of patients who have significant back pain and apparently test normal initially have been proved to have rheumatological conditions like ankylosing spondylitis or other forms of spondyloarthropathy associated with diseases like psoriaasis, urinary infection etc. Contrary to conventional thoughts, these patients are actually quite sick and have back pain arising from inflamed intervertebral joints.

With a combination of diligent investigation, and the use of antiarthritic drugs and supplements, substantial relief can be granted to these patients.

The medical management of these patients includes treatment of other associated conditions and also the use of therapy to quit smoking and other self abusive behaviour.
