Manipulation and Chiropractice.

Though controversial, the use of manipulation for the joints , in trained hands, does seem to restore balance, and reduce discomort of chronic joint disease.

External Modality Treatment

The use of external modalities involves use of microwave, short wave and infrared radiation to create a local heating effect and improve the local circulation. Ultrasonic diathermy is also used for a similar effect. The use of electrical stimulation like TENS, Interferential Therapy, and Laser therapy is beneficial in radicular or nerve pains

Muscle Training and Exercises

The spinal column consists of approximately 24 bones articulated together and held together by joints, discs and ligaments. The organ which gives shape and stability to this complex structure is however the paraspinal muscle system. The muscles are like the tie beams of a tent which straighten the spine by pulling equally in all directions. A well trained and tight muscular structure is essential to ensure proper loading of the spine and alleviate pain and instability.

Physical Therapy of the Spine broadly consists of three components namely, the use of  external devices, exercises and muscle training and manipulation. It must be stressed that the use of physical therapy can be potentially dangerous and must be carried out by trained experts.
